The Community Benchmark team is very excited to introduce our new Lead Software Engineer, Marko Benko.

Marko plays an important role at Community Benchmark as our Lead Software Engineer.  His strong background in privacy/security makes him an ideal player on the team. He started at Siemens where he developed the web application for testing of biometric devices and continued as a developer in payroll/HR compliance at HRPro.

While visiting his brother in the Bay Area, Marko decided that it was a goal of his to work for an American company.  He lives in Croatia and has been enjoying sharing Croatian trivia and his fun sense of humor with the Community Benchmark team!

Let’s take a closer look and get to know him:

What brings you joy these days?

My work and my family. I’m a proud father of three girls that bring me joy every day.
But also, on a more global scale, I’m grateful that science is helping us effectively battle this pandemic.

How did you get into the wine business?

By chance. I was looking for some opportunities and saw Community Benchmark.
Benchmarking is a popular term in software engineering, so I went on to investigate more and saw wine. What can I say? Sip happens! I was hooked.

What’s your favorite wine?

Plavac Mali. Translation to English would be “small blue”, plavo means blue, mali means small.
It is a cross of ancestral Zinfandel and local sort called Dobričić that is specific to Dalmatian islands.
One of the instrumental persons behind tracking the origins of Plavac Mali was the most obvious link between Croatia, California, and wine: Mike Grgich.

Thanks, Marko, for joining the team!  We are glad you are here.
