NAPA, CALIFORNIA DECEMBER 2019.

The Community Benchmark team is very excited to introduce our new Member Executive, Nick Rood.

His curiosity in the wine world was first piqued when his family started their own high-end label in 2005.  Since then, he has helped with everything from establishing a vineyard, to making the wine, to selling it direct-to-consumer across the country at Elizabeth Spencer Winery and the Vintner’s Collective, LLC.  He earned his MBA at Sonoma State, emphasizing on Wine Business.

Nick plays an important role at Community Benchmark as our Member Executive.  He manages and facilitates the sales cycle, demo process/outreach and campaigns.  Let’s take a closer look and get to know him:

Why did you choose to work at Community Benchmark?

I have been in DTC Sales and Analytics for over a decade and absolutely love the wine industry (the people, places and weather are hard to beat).  I have always been drawn to numbers and the story they can tell. Community Benchmark has taken the concept of actionable data to a whole new level for our industry.  I am very excited to be a part of a team dedicated to providing new insights and opportunities to businesses that have traditionally been built on a labor of love.

What makes for a favorite wine?

The wines that really stand out to me are those with a great story behind them.  Those special bottles that are as exciting to open and to share as they are to drink.  There are so many well made wines, quality alone no longer sets bottles apart.

I also gained a tremendous amount of appreciation for the hard work and sacrifice it takes to put something special in the bottle when my parents started their own label in the Sierra Foothills in 2006.  My introduction to the industry was putting up deer fence and digging irrigation trenches – it didn’t take long for me to move to Napa and explore other options.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Hockey has been one of my biggest passions since I was a kid.  I played throughout my teenage years and into college, and still make it out on the ice every so often  (Go Sharks!). Golf has captured my time and attention more recently – and I always enjoy a good puzzle to solve.

Thanks, Nick, for joining the team!  We are glad you are here.
